Geocaching® App Reviews

You destroyed a good thing

The old version of the app had more features and didnt charge for difficulty ratings but only hide the premium caches, no you have to pay to see regular caches that happen to be over 1.5 terrain. You could also make lists and add caches to be available off line with the old app and that has become a premium feature. I suggest they go back to the way things were so they stop ruining their customer base. For a $10 app all of those things should be included.

More pricey, but more fun

I agree that it is ridiculous that non premium members can only view difficulty 1/1.5 caches, but if you are willing to spend the 9.99 every three months, it is great. The gps feels more accurate and the design is better. I also like how other types of caches like virtuals are now available on the phone. The lists are also a pretty cool feature. I feel that this money is worth a fun outdoor hobby that takes up a lot of time. If you think this is expensive, look up the cost of sports lessons band other activities. Cmon guys...

Getting there

Thanks for the additional function of making lists in app on the latest update.. Still waiting on more social functionality in app... Browse friends, add friends, friends near me, messaging capability.

Classic app was better

I find myself switching back and forth between the old app and this one. New one can be a bit slow and when searching other locations on the map it doesnt reload caches in new area sometimes. Need a research area button like the old app.

Not truly free

$9.99 for 3 months?!? Rip off. Download ANY OTHER free app. Not even close to worth it to have to pay to get the extra stuff. Ill be deleting after I post this. Started out a good app, but dropped like a bag of rocks when I had to pay to get the caches over a level 1.5 Absolutely ridiculous.

Clunky

This app is so bad it prompted me to write my first review ever. Nothing makes sense and it is not fully functional unless youre a premium member. I typically do not pay for apps but the other version of the geocaching app was well worth $10. I hope Groundspeak is paying attention and restructures this to be like the app we have all come to enjoy. You know; the one that they are not supporting anymore. Im going back to manually entering geocaches into my old handheld device. This app is total garbage.

I dont like the new app

The old geocaching app was amazing but this new app is a rip off. You now have to upgrade to a premium subscription to be able to find most caches, only the most basic caches are available for free users. Please bring back the old app... Or make it so that free users can access the same number of caches as the old app.

Cute hobby

My fiancé and I love to go geocaching together. Its a great time waster/day activity. This app is so much fun! I spent the $9.99 after having the month for two months, definitely worth the purchase!

Takes the fun out of geocaching(at least hiding them).

During my lunch break today I tried to hide my new disposable camera geocache in 3 different places, when I entered it in on the website( why it isnt integrated into the app only Satan knows because this must be part of his plan) it kept telling me I cant hide it there because someone else hid their geocache 400 feet away from there back in 2009 and it was burnt in a brush fire years ago. The whole wasatch valley is covered in outdated geocaches so I cant seem to hide anything anywhere! They definitely need to make exceptions to the 600ft rule. Bring it down to 200 feet In some areas. And dont get me started about the app design. I cant believe I paid for this "premium" membership.

Geocachin

Love this App. Having fun finding caches.

Why Change?

Sure the new app is pretty to look at but thats about it on the plus side. I purchased the upgrade for the old app and no surprise it didnt carry over. The new app also hides most caches behind the premium service. Not cool. Fine- I will pay for the new app premium but its SUBSCRIPTION based. Not cool. Dang money grabbers. So every year or 3 months you have to repurchase it.

Almost there....

Been waiting for the various updates that have been promised. Finally it seems like offline lists created through the app is here, so thats a plus. Still waiting on advanced search. I can currently make a list from within the app, but without advanced search I dont really need to yet.

Almost there...

With the most recent update we now have the ability to create lists within the app. Good Deal. However, until Advanced Search is available, I wont need to be making many lists. Still need Advanced Search to be more user friendly/comprehensive. Need to be able to search by Keyword/Cacher Placed etc...

Beta?

Its an unfinished app with bugs in it. Large beta test maybe? No, couldnt be that. Beta tests would not limit the testers to 1.5 difficulty and 1.5 terrain. The classic app was dropped for this? Sad.

Meh

The app keeps crashing and Im kind of sick of it. Also they need to fix the map it WAY WAY out of date. Other than that its ok.

So much fun!

So much fun!! Never enjoyed myself so much!!! Only issue I have is that to find the pictures of things I need to go to the web site and you need to pay 29.99$ for the year on the app yet you get all the features for free on the web site. Still, non the less this has been so much fun!!

Not cool.

I bought this app for $10 (still pricey but I figured it was worth it with all of the features) a year ago now all of the features I paid for are blocked behind a subscription paywall?? This app isnt worth the money anymore! The value dropped from $10 to $.99 AT BEST. Not cool man. Not. Cool.

Crashes

Crashes every time I load it.

Garbage

DO NOT BUY THIS APP! I paid $10.00 for this app back in the day. You could download caches to offline lists without problems, and many of the other now "premium" features were included in the original app. This is a low blow to cachers who paid for the original app. Im switching to Cachebot, and I recommend that you do to.

Ok overall

Its an ok app. I like the previous paid app way better though. Things that I miss about the other app are the options for needs maintaining/archive and the ability to award favorite points. Its a pain to have to go online to the websites to award a favorite point.
